Tactics of advancing 400 km at a bound Many battles during the anti-Japanese armed struggle have been recorded in the history of the Korean revolution. They include battles in the Musan area well-known for "tactics of advancing 400 kilometres at a bound".
In May Juche 28 or 1939, the great leader Kim Il Sung led the main unit of the Korean People´s Revolutionary Army into the homeland to the great confusion of the Japanese imperialists. Informed of it, the enemy deployed huge troops on mountains and in valleys in search of the unit. Seeing through the enemy´s plot, Kim Il Sung dispatched a number of small units to different places in advance to leave their traces, making the enemy believe that the Korean People´s Revolutionary Army recrossed the River Amnok. Why did the Korean People´s Revolutionary Army come to Korea and go back without doing anything? Governor of Korea Minami and the Commander of the Japanese occupationist army in Korea pondered over and over, but did not believe that the Korean People´s Revolutionary Army that had come over through a strict border cordon, went back silently after sleeping overnight. Having a presentiment that the unit had come certainly for another incident that would shake the public at home and abroad, the enemy ordered their soldiers to stand by. They surrounded the hilly areas in a semi-circle and gradually tightened the ring. Around that time, Kim Il Sung convened a meeting of commanding officers at the Pegaebong Bivouac and presented superb tactics. He believed that the enemy would concentrate force on the hilly areas, but pay little attention to the highways, and would be more vigilant at night than in the daytime. His tactics were to march a long distance by employing the tactics of advancing 400 kilometres at a bound along the frontier guard road while the enemy troops were wandering about in the mountains, mount a surprise attack on an unexpected place and strike terror into the heart of the enemy. It was the "tactics of advancing 400 kilometres at a bound" told like a legend. The new tactics presented by Kim Il Sung were the boldest tactics ever-seen in the military books and in the history of guerrilla warfare of all countries and at all times that confused the authoritative military experts and brass hats of the Japanese imperialists. The next day, the unit left Mt. Pegae, took rest by the Lake Samji and came out of the woods and took a highway. It was the "Kapsan-Musan Guard Road" the enemy had paved for years to prevent the infiltration of the Korean People´s Revolutionary Army. After marching along the "guard road", the Korean People´s Revolutionary Army won great victories in the battles in Taehongdan, Sinsadong, Singaechok and around the Tuji Rock. The tactics of advancing 400 kilometres at a bound applied under the superb command of the great Kim Il Sung were outstanding tactics that demonstrated the invincibility of the Korean People´s Revolutionary Army and struck a great terror into the hearts of the Japanese imperialists. |
