The Eighth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea touched on developing pomiculture.
The WPK attaches importance to the pomiculture with the aim of providing the people with a rich life. Already since the early 1960s orchards have been created as an all-people campaign to develop the pomiculture extensively.
Leading fruit producers are Kwail County of South Hwanghae Province, Pukchong County of South Hamgyong Province, the Kosan Combined Fruit Farm in Kangwon Province and the Taedonggang Combined Fruit Farm in Pyongyang.

At present, the pomiculture sector of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is increasing the fruit production, regarding it as a main task to put the fruit production on a scientific, intensive and modern basis.
Seed is fundamental in the pomiculture as well like in the agricultural production and stockbreeding.
Lots of high-yield varieties of fruit trees including dwarf apple trees are planted, which can reap a good harvest with less investment, and advanced manuring and tending methods are introduced.
In addition, food production cycle of pomiculture and stockbreeding has been established thoroughly to raise the fertility of soil.

Fruit processing bases have been built according to productivity on the principle of making access to the fruit producers to produce different kinds of processed fruit.
Fruit growing in garden is also encouraged.
Fruit trees are planted around public buildings and dwelling houses and in the compounds of the industrial establishments. Especially the rural houses are allowed to plant and cultivate 10 to 15 fruit trees.
Nationwide sci-tech presentations, meetings for presenting experiences, emulation drive for increasing the unit-area yield of fruit and fruit taste competition serve as a momentum of further promoting the development of pomiculture of the country.
