In Cuba Caoba is known as one of the hard trees.
When he visited the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to take part in the international festival for celebrating the centenary birth anniversary of the great PresidentKim Il Sung , Juan Jose Leon Vega, First Vice-Chairman of the Cuban Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification, presented the craftwork "Steed" made of the Caoba to the respected Kim Jong Un as gift on April 11, Juche 101(2012).

The gift is a wooden sculpture showing the horse ridden by General Antonio Maceo Grajales. The horse was called Martinete.
General Antonio Maceo Grajales was one of the commanders of the revolt army during the first war of independence of Cuba which lasted for 10 years from 1868. He is said to have mounted the Martinete to defeat the enemy.
Juan Jose Leon Vega prepared the gift by collecting the Caoba in Mt. Sierra Maestra where Fidel Castro kindled the torch of the armed struggle.
The craftwork is 41.5 centimetres high.
