He was accompanied by the senior Party and government officials--Jo Yong Won, Kim Tok Hun, Jong Sang Hak, Ri Il Hwan, O Su Yong, Choe Sang Gon and Kim Jae Ryong--and Kim Yong Hwan, Chief Secretary of the Pyongyang Municipal Party Committee.
He underscored the need to design the buildings and parks and gardens well while preserving the good natural landscape of Korea and thus show the characteristics and charm of the city. He said the residential quarters of terrace houses in the riverbank area around the Pothong Gate would be wonderfully built as a model of residential quarters of our country.
He said that apart from the project for building 10,000 flats in Pyongyang, the Party Central Committee would directly push ahead with the project for building 800 flats in the residential quarters of terrace houses in the riverbank area around the Pothong Gate and complete the construction within this year and present them to labour innovators and meritorious persons in all fields, scientists, educators, writers and other working people who are devotedly working for the Party and the state.
Pointing out that our officials lack the understanding and knowledge of designing the urban afforestation and natural landscape and are not interested in it, he stated that in building a city it is necessary to blend building and nature into one and lay out the life space and ecological space in a scientific way so as to combine the work, rest and traffic organically.
