She was born into an ordinary family in Sunam District, the city of Chongjin, North Hamgyong Province and started weightlifting at the age of 11.
She trained hard with an ambition and determination to become a world champion like the excellent weightlifters who fluttered the national flag high in the sky of the world in the past.
A few years after she started to learn basic techniques of weightlifting, she was active as a weightlifter at the Amnokgang Sports Team and won three gold medals at the 2017 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships.
She started to distinguish herself as weightlifting superstar at the women's weightlifting of the 19th Asian Games held in 2023 and the 2023 IWF Grand Prix.
She made a new world record in the women's 55-kilogram snatch and won three gold medals at the 2024 Asian Weightlifting Championships, set new world records in clean and jerk and total respectively and won three gold medals at the 2024 IWF World Cup, and won three gold medals at the 2024 IWF World Championships, thus bagging 9 gold medals in a year.
Not resting content with her successes, she is training harder and harder to demonstrate the dignity and honour of the country all over the world with more gold medals.
