The gift depicts Lake Hoan Kiem, a symbol of Hanoi.
According to a legend of Vietnam, a king was groping for a way to repulse the foreign invaders by the lake, when a tortoise came up to the surface of the lake and gave him a mysterious sword.
The king drove out the aggressors and defended the country with this sword before coming back to the lake to return it.
Since then, the lake has been called Lake Hoan Kiem meaning that the sword was returned.
The Vietnamese people regard the lake as a symbol of peace.
The gift is 45.5 centimetres wide and 35.7 centimetres long.
