Successes on the Increase
To this end, milch cow and goat farms were built or expanded in all parts of the country and the breeding of grass-eating animals has been put on a highly scientific basis to steadily increase the milk production.
This year, the national milk production has increased 1.3 times as against the like period of last year.
The Phyongphungdok Goat Farm in Hamju County of South Hamgyong Province has established a breeding system to increase the number of goats of good breed that grow well in the highlands and produce lots of milk.
The farm built 8 new branch farms and created another more than 600 hectares of grass fields within a few years. It continues to expand the area of natural and artificial grass fields this year, too.
It also actively promoted the work to put the goat breeding on a highly scientific footing, thus producing lots of milk every day.
In recent years livestock production has systematically increased at the Kyenam Livestock Farm under the Rural Economy Committee of South Hwanghae Province.
The farm has thousands of hectares of natural grass fields and more than 50 hectares of artificial ones.
It has established a well-organized system of producing and supplying feed for scientific guarantee of the goats' nutrition. It is directing efforts to revitalizing the production of kids of good breed by artificial insemination and further completing the conditions for raising goats indoors.
A lot of successes are also made at stockbreeding bases in Kangdong County of Pyongyang.
The Kubin Livestock Farm, one of the advanced units across the country, is overfulfilling its milk production plan by securing good breed of animals and adopting scientific breeding methods.
This year, too, the farm has pushed ahead with the work of creating grass fields in a methodological way on the basis of the experience of having created more than 100 hectares of artificial grass fields in the past. It has also actively adopted reasonable breeding techniques to improve the nutritive conditions of goats and increase the milk production per one goat 1.2 times as against the same period of last year.
The Songgum Livestock Farm has favourable conditions for goat breeding as 80 percent of the cultivated acreage is mountains, which are more than 350 metres above the sea level on an average. Its milk production is carried out on a higher level than last year.
The farm has increased the milk production on a steady basis by rationally combining grain feed and substitute food and actively adopting advanced feed processing techniques. This year, too, it sent hundreds of tons of dry milk to nurseries and kindergartens in the city of Pyongyang.
