3rd People's Art Festival for Celebrating February 16 opens
  The 3rd People's Art Festival for Celebrating February 16 opened on the occasion of the 84th birth anniversary of the great leader Kim Jong Il.
  Mobile artistic motivational team members and art circle members selected in the capital city and provinces will take part in the festival which will be held at theatres and halls in those regions, divided into categories of mobile artistic motivational teams and art circles.
  An opening ceremony of the festival was held at the East Pyongyang Grand Theatre on the 13th.
  Present there were Ri Il Hwan, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Jon Kyong Chol, Deputy Department Director of the Party Central Committee, officials concerned, participants in the festival and working people in the city of Pyongyang.
  Minister of Culture Sung Jong Gyu, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Festival, made an opening address.
  He declared the festival open, expressing the belief that through the festival, all the participants would speak highly of the undying exploits of the great leader Kim Jong Il and powerfully encourage the struggle of the people across the country striving with a single heart to bring earlier the era of overall prosperity of our state in firm unity around the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un with patriotism.
  The flag of the festival was hoisted amid the playing of the song "Shine, Jong Il Peak".
  An opening performance was given by artistes of national art organizations including the Mansudae Art Troupe.
  That day, performances of the festival were given at theatres and halls across the country.
