Korean Painting "Women of a Village on the Bank of the Nam"

The Korean painting "Women of a Village on the Bank of the Nam" was created by Kim Ui Gwan in 1966.
It is based on the real fact that happened during the Fatherland Liberation War (1950--1953).
Through the resourceful and brave women of a village on the bank of the Nam in Kangwon Province who turned out to increase the grain production, the work impressively shows the devoted fighting spirit of the Korean women who made a great contribution to the victory in the war.
It exerts a great influence for its intensive composition of picture, delicate depiction of details and expressive colour representation.
The work took the first place at the Ninth National Fine Art Exhibition for its contribution to developing anew the vivid and succinct traditional art of Korean painting to suit modern aesthetic tastes. It is now kept at the Korea National Art Museum.
