Communist Mother Honour Prize
In the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the Communist Mother Honour Prize is awarded to those women who rendered distinguished services to the prosperity of the country by fulfilling their responsibility and duty for the society and their families.
The prize was instituted on the occasion of the Fifth National Conference of Mothers held in December 2023.
More than 40 Communist Mother Honour Prize winners have been produced since its institution.
Among them are those who brought up their sons as DPRK Heroes and Labour Heroes, those who encouraged all their children to serve in the army and work in challenging and difficult sectors and devoted themselves to implementing the agricultural policy of the Workers' Party of Korea and assisting the army, those who adopted orphans and brought them up wonderfully, mothers of scientists' and educators' families and wives of honoured disabled soldiers.

This is how the Communist Mother Honour Prize was instituted in the DPRK.
One day a few months before the Fifth National Conference of Mothers, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un gave officials of a department concerned of the Party Central Committee precious instructions on instituting and awarding the Communist Mother Honour Prize.
Some days later in October he called the officials again and said that those eligible for the Communist Mother Honour Prize can be found not only among the members of the women's union but also among the Party members, trade unionists and members of the union of agricultural workers. And he gave them a task to deeply study the issue of instituting the prize again and report the result to him.
He added that a gold ring inscribed with his name should be awarded to the prize winners and the diploma of the prize in the name of the Central Committee of the WPK be made gracefully.
Afterwards, he guided in detail the designs of the diploma, gold ring and gift list on several occasions.
In December that year Kim Jong Un attended the Fifth National Conference of Mothers, which was held amid the boundless respect and expectation of all people on this land, and met the women who were awarded the Communist Mother Honour Prize.
Among them was Nam Kil Hyon living in Taesong District of Pyongyang, who brought up all her three children as good scientists. She says:
"At the conference I was seated on the platform.
It was my great honour to attend the conference in the presence of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
I had never imagined that I would receive the Communist Mother Honour Prize.
I did not even know that there was a recommendation for communist mothers.
Words fail to express my honour of receiving the Communist Mother Honour Prize.
All of my family members are scientists and were awarded honorary titles. I was moved to tears at the thought that Kim Jong Un valued it and nominated me, over 80, as a communist mother."
The Communist Mother Honour Prize is a high commendation given by Kim Jong Un to the mothers who set an example to be followed by the women.
