Freshwater Fish Resources on the Increase
Deputy Director Kim Kyong Su mentioned the importance of breeding fish in the creation of fish resources and said:
"Now is the most important period in fish production. How to gather spawns and grow fry decides a success in the fish production of a year. It is a fish-breeding season. We are taking scientific and technical measures for the fish to lay eggs properly in spring."
The bureau ensures that the breeding fish production units direct efforts to the production of fry at every stage ranging from hatching.
The breeding fish farms demand the fish farmers thoroughly observe the scientific and technological requirements in the management of seed fish, collection of spawns, hatching and breeding according to the characteristics of every kind of fish.
A number of breeding fish farms including the Tudan Youth Breeding Fish Farm give precedence to solving the problems of additives and feed in accordance with the geographical characteristics and thoroughly observe the technical requirements in hatching and ensuring the number of fish per cubic metre.
They have solved the issues of water quality and temperature for good growth of fishes suited to the biological characteristics of their kinds, raising the rate of survival of fry.
The Taedonggang Fish Farming and Breeding Fish Production and Supply Station introduced nutrition reinforcing agent in close contact with a relevant research unit, raising the rate of survival of fry 10 percent more than before. It also built a good paramecium culture room and increased the early feed production to grow young fishes in a balanced and perfect way.
Fish farmer Jo Hyang said early feed is important in raising the rate of survival of fry, and continued:
"I am glad in spite of myself to think that the fry I have grown will be released in the Taedong River. I feel a great pride of being a fish farmer who played a big role in increasing the marine resources of the country."
The carp, goldfish and other freshwater fishes bred by them will be released in natural waters such as the River Taedong and the River Pothong before long, making the scenery of Pyongyang more conspicuous.
