Head Ri Kun Chol and other members of the department have conducted strenuous scientific research activities to introduce advanced treatment methods into the clinical practice according to the world trend of development of medical sciences over the past 10-odd years.
In the past, the cancer operations in the sphere of abdominal surgery at the hospital had many problems such as long duration and possible postoperative complications.
In order to solve them, the medical workers of the department had arguments and discussions and performed animal experiments and simulated operations hundreds of times.
Thanks to their painstaking efforts, they established a new surgical treatment method for cholangiocarcinoma in 2019.
On this basis, they completed more than 10 new cancer operation methods including that for lower biliary tract cancer.
And they developed new methods to ensure safe operations one after another while shortening the operating time from 8~10 hours to 5~6.

Now they are working hard to attain their high goal for putting all the operations in the sphere of abdominal surgery on the world level.
They also widely disseminated advanced medical techniques to regional hospitals, making an active contribution to improving the qualifications of their medical workers.
