To Put Agricultural Production on Scientific and IT Basis
  Pak Chol Jin, Section Chief of the Agriculture Informatization Institute under the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, is a talented scientist distinguishing himself in putting agriculture on an IT basis with novel conception and tough executive ability.



  Over the past 10-odd years, he has played a core role in the development of various agricultural IT products including the crop growth simulation program and the crop nutrition diagnosis program.
  He formed relations with agricultural information technology when he was attending the postgraduate course of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences after graduation from the Pyongyang University of Agriculture.
  "With the promotion of the agriculture informatization as required by the age of scientific farming, I keenly felt its importance.
  So I channelled efforts into developing programs conducive to scientific farming on the basis of the study and analysis of a lot of practical technologies developed in putting the agricultural production on an IT footing and the latest world trends."
  Pak Chol Jin paid attention to the fact that it is one of the important ways for increasing the output of grains and improving their quality to ensure the normal growth of crops, and buckled down to the development of a program for discriminating weeds or harmful insects and taking measures to kill them together with other researchers.
  He intensified his research with high ability and unabated ardour and finally developed the weed and harmful insects discrimination support program "Poho" 1.0.
  This program makes it possible to discriminate major weeds growing a lot on the farm fields and insects doing harm to the crops with a high degree of accuracy by applying the image analysis technology and the artificial intelligence technology and take relevant measures.
  It created a sensation among agricultural workers as soon as it was introduced because it helps timely discriminate the names and features of weeds or harmful insects that occurred on the fields by using smart mobile phones and take steps to exterminate them.
  Recently, Pak Chol Jin has developed the crop nitrogenous nutrition diagnostic program "Hwalryokso" 1.0, proving himself again as a man of ability in the development of agricultural IT products.
  "With this program, we can appraise the soil characters of each plot, current growth of crops, nitrogenous nutrition of crops via image of leaves and so on.
  It also makes it possible to decide the rational amount of fertilization and thus maximize the effects of fertilizer and increase the unit-area yield of crops more than seven percent on an average."
  Today, too, Section Chief Pak Chol Jin is working hard to put the agricultural production on a scientific and IT basis without resting on his laurels.
