With unusual curiosity about the kayagum, she learned how to play the kayagum from her kindergarten days.
She said:
"I got to know that it is very difficult to play the kayagum.
As I repeated to pick the strings of the kayagum, I had blisters on my fingers and cried with pain. Each time my teacher told me that if I train hard every day, I can learn how to play it soon."
Kim Yo Jun trained so hard that she could take the first place at a number of festivals and was awarded the prize of best player at the contest of children with distinguished talents.
After she entered a school, she became a member of the kayagum circle of the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace as she wished.
Attending the palace, she envied so much the sisters and brothers who gave pleasure to the respected fatherly Marshal
One day, she asked her teacher how she could meet Marshal
The teacher told her that if she also studies and trains hard, she can give pleasure to him any time.
Kim Yo Jun studied harder and trained one hour more than others at the palace.
In 2025 when she was 9 years old, she played the kayagum solo in the New Year performance and performed at the national instrumental ensemble in 2026.
