DPRK players prove successful at 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships
They won seven gold medals and set new world and Asian records in succession on the 14th.
In the women's 63-kilogram event, Ri Suk lifted 111 kilograms in snatch, 143 kilograms (new world record and new Asian record) in clean and jerk and 254 kilograms (new world record and new Asian record) in total, winning gold medals in clean and jerk and total and a silver medal in snatch.
In the men's 71-kilogram event, Ri Won Ju lifted 154 kilograms in snatch, 197 kilograms (new world record and new Asian record) in clean and jerk and 351 kilograms (new world record and new Asian record) in total, thus coming first in clean and jerk and total and second in snatch.
In the men's 79-kilogram event, Ri Ryong Hyon lifted 206 kilograms (new world record and new Asian record) in clean and jerk and 364 kilograms in total and thus bagged gold medals in those categories and a silver medal in snatch. Ri Chong Song lifted 161 kilograms in snatch and won a gold medal and carried off silver medals in clean and jerk and total.
