Groundbreaking ceremony for DPRK-Russia border motorway bridge held





Ground was broken for a motorway bridge linking the borders of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation when active practical measures are taken to strengthen the bilateral exchanges and cooperation according to the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held in Rason, the border city of the DPRK, and in Hassan, the border city of Russia, at the same time on April 30.
Pak Thae Song, Premier of the Cabinet of the DPRK, and Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, attended the ceremony through video conferencing in Pyongyang and Moscow.
Present at the ceremony were Jong Myong Su, Vice-Premier of the Cabinet of the DPRK, Yun Jong Ho, Minister of External Economic Relations who is Chairman of the DPRK Side to the DPRK-Russia Inter-Governmental Committee for Cooperation in Trade, Economy, Science and Technology, officials concerned, builders and working people in the city of Rason.
Also on hand were Alexandr Matsegora, Russian ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the DPRK, Oleg Kosheev, Russian consul general in Chongjin, and staff members of their embassy and consulate.
Congratulatory speeches were made by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin and DPRK Premier Pak Thae Song.
On the instructions of the heads of government of the two countries, construction equipment started the project at the bridge construction sites of both sides.
In their concluding speeches, the heads of government of the two countries expressed the belief that the motorway bridge would be built wonderfully as another monumental structure to be etched in gold letters in the history of the DPRK-Russia relations.
Then a monument to the groundbreaking ceremony for the motorway bridge was unveiled.
Seen on the monument are the national emblems of the two countries and the Korean and Russian letters reading "In Commemoration of the Groundbreaking for the DPRK-Russia Border Motorway Bridge, April 30, 2025".
That day the leading cadres of the DPRK who took part in the groundbreaking ceremony talked with the leading cadres of the government of the Russian Federation who visited the DPRK-Russia Friendship House.
At the talk, practical issues were discussed in detail for completing on schedule the construction of the DPRK-Russia border motorway bridge which is of substantial and great significance in powerfully promoting many-sided exchanges and development of economic relations between the two countries.
