Historic Building--Ryongthong Temple
The ancestors of Wan Kon, founder of the Koryo Dynasty, lived in the Ryongthong Valley generation after generation.
Researcher Kim Song Wi at the Academy of Social Sciences said Kaesong was also called Songdo and told about the Ryongthong Temple.
"As for the scenery of Ryongthong Temple, ancient books said 'the beautiful scenery is the best in Songdo'.
According to ancient books, Ryongthong Temple was large in scale and had many monks and it was a famous temple where memorial services were held on a regular basis before the portraits of the successive kings.
It can be said to have been built in the early 10th century judging from the array of remains unearthed, the style of tower and historical records."
The Ryongthong Temple has more than 20 big and small buildings including Kyongson and Pogwang monasteries.
Besides, there are a monument to Buddhist leader of the nation, three-storey stone pagoda, five-storey stone pagoda and stone platform for flagpoles.
The Ryongthong Temple adds beauty to the scenery of the Ryongthong Valley all the more, which was famous as "the best one in Songdo".
