Ancient Wooden Bridge of the Taedong River
The Taedong River flows through the heart of the capital Pyongyang. It is 450.3 kilometres long, which is the fifth longest river in Korea.
Many historic relics and remains showing the wisdom and talents of Korean ancestors were discovered in the Taedong basin.

Among them is the ancient wooden bridge of the Taedong River built in the early 5th century.
It was built at the time when Koguryo was moving the capital to the Walled City of Pyongyang after long preparations for its construction.
Koguryo is the first feudal state of Korea which existed between 277 B.C. and A.D. 668.
Here is Researcher Kim Song Chol at the Archaeological Institute under the Academy of Social Sciences.
"The restored bridge was about 375 metres long and about 9 metres wide.
It consists of main frame, auxiliary frame and planks on them.
  The frames have rabbets."
The bridge was built in good consideration of physiographical conditions of the Taedong River.
The ancient wooden bridge of the Taedong River is a valuable national heritage showing well the excellent architecture of the Koguryo people.
