DPRK weightlifters come first in medal standings of countries and regions at 2025 IWF World Championships
The high physical and technical abilities displayed by Korean weightlifters at the championship held for the first time after the International Weightlifting Federation newly set the men's and women's categories of weight and their standard records left deep impressions on many experts and spectators and created a sensation of the world weightlifting circles.
Nine of 12 new world records were set by Korean weightlifters in the women's events of the championships, with the result that the women's weightlifting team of the DPRK tops the ranking of world record holder-nations.
Korean men weightlifters bagged three gold medals, four silver medals and a bronze medal and Ro Kwang Ryol broke the standard record in clean and jerk of the men's 88-kg event.
The International Weightlifting Federation said the DPRK clearly proved in the championships that it is definitely ranking first in the world weightlifting circles and added that the DPRK team has shown a clear dominance in a number of international games since it returned to the world weightlifting arena in 2023.
